With her family facing a huge debt, at just 14 years old, Toha's mother first sold her for sex. She was taken to the hospital to get a 'certificate of virginity', then dropped off at a hotel alone and raped. A few weeks after she returned home, the man who had bought her virginity began to call her and request to see her again. Her mother urged her to go.
"I went to the bathroom and cut my arms," Toha said.
A friend broke down the door and saved her life. Soon after her suicide attempt, Toha was sold to a brothel in southern Cambodia. After 20 long days, Toha was able to access a phone and call for help. Two days later she was finally found, rescued and brought to the safety of a rehabilitation center.
In the time span of most girls who are trafficked - 22 days seems like a small time. However, in just 22 days, Toha was raped by 198 different men.
She has since bravely stood to testify against the brothel owners and those who took her into trafficking. Today, Toha continues to share her story to encourage people to join her in her fight against sex Trafficking.
One girl is too many,
One day is too long.
